Thunder Canyon Beer & Spirits Packaging
Beer can packaging for the oldest brewery in Tucson.
This series of illustrations was for Thunder Canyon Brewery, located in downtown Tucson. In early 2019, they commissioned a new logo but did not have any extended brand assets. The new cans were 16 oz and had quite a bit of room to experiment. I created a brand language that could be used across all of their packaging and merchandise to keep a standard look whether you spot them in their taproom or in the beer aisle.

EACH CAN TELLS A STORY
EACH CAN TELLS A STORY
Each beer tells a story as you turn it in your hand.
The beer can printing process happens in two steps.
The first layer being a layer of white, and the second being the actual artwork. I played with the first layer's opacity, allowing some of the illustration to remain matte and other elements to be shinier to draw attention to them as you turned the can in your hand.

A year after the initial line of beers, I was able to work with Thunder Canyon on merchandise and a line of flavored vodkas as well. The typography for the t-shirt design is a thick monoline font I designed myself, Utilitus.
